The koala is one of Australia's recognized symbols and has been under nature protection since 1937 due to its endangerment by humans. These sleepy and gentle animals spend most of their time resting or feeding on eucalyptus leaves in the forests of Australia. Since 2007, the Australian Perth Mint has been issuing the Australian Koala silver coin series in honor of this well-known marsupial, and since 2008, it has also been issued in gold. To complement the popular gold series, a 1 oz coin is now also released annually in Proof quality with High Relief. The Proof finish is highly prized by collectors and is one of the most elaborate minting processes for a coin. The coin is also struck on an extra deep blank to particularly highlight its highly detailed high relief design.

With a worldwide mintage of only 200 pieces, the gold coin is strictly limited and delivered in the original presentation case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The design of the gold coin

The obverse of the coin captures the essence of these gentle creatures. In 2025, the design depicts a day in the life of the koala, high up in the peaceful refuge of the eucalyptus canopy. The motif is surrounded by the inscription "KOALA" as well as the mint year and purity "2025 1oz 9999 GOLD". The Perth Mint's "P" mintmark is also visible.

The reverse of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III. Around the portrait are the inscriptions "CHARLES III" and the country of origin "AUSTRALIA". Below the portrait is the denomination "100 DOLLARS".
