While the gold Krugerrand was first minted in 1967, the silver Krugerrand is a relatively new coin. In 2018, the South African Mint, in collaboration with the Rand Refinery, issued the Krugerrand as a classic silver investment coin for the first time.

The design and special features of the silver Krugerrand

The reverse of the coin features a springbok antelope, reflecting the beauty and vastness of the South African landscape. The size and year of minting are also shown on the reverse. In addition, the abbreviation R1, which stands for the South African currency called the rand, can be found on the reverse. The front of the Krugerrand coin features the impressive profile of General and later President Paul Kruger. He symbolizes the history, independence, and freedom of South Africa.
