The Gold Maple Leaf is a Canadian coin, first minted by Royal Canadian Mint in 1979. Therefore, it is one of the oldest gold bullion coins in the world, and the most widespread next to the Krugerrand. The batch number partly outranked the Krugerrand.
The name of the Gold Maple Leaf refers to the English term for the maple leaf, which adorns the front of the coin and is also depicted on the Canadian national flag. As with all Commonwealth coins, the reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is changed every few years. Since 2013, the 1-ounce version of the Maple Leaf gold coin also bears an additional visual security feature in the form of a smaller maple leaf with the last two digits of the year of minting. The coin is inscribed in English and French, the national languages of Canada.
The Gold Maple Leaf was originally only available as 1 ounce with a face value of 50 Canadian dollars. There are now also denominations of 1/20 ounce, 1/10 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/2 ounce. A special 1/15 ounce coin was also issued in 1994. The fineness of the Maple Leaf gold coin is 999.9. The coin has also been available in silver and platinum since 1988 and in palladium since 2005.All shipping costs include insurance, protective packaging and VAT.
