The Royal Mint commemorates the ten heraldic beasts lining the moat bridge of Hampton Court Palace with the Royal Tudor Beasts coin series. Following his marriage to Jane Seymour in 1536, Henry VIII commissioned the construction of the impressive palace entrance to honour his new queen. Among these figures was the Queen’s majestic lion – a proud and powerful symbol bearing a shield emblazoned with Jane Seymour’s royal badge, representing her status and the Tudor heritage.

All motifs in the series are: The Seymour Panther, The Lion of England, The Yale of Beaufort, The Bull of Clarence, The Tudor Dragon, The Greyhound of Richmond, The Royal Dragon, The Seymour Unicorn, The Queen's Panther and The Queen’s Lion. The Design of the Gold Coin

The reverse of the coin was designed by artist David Lawrence. It depicts the lion standing upright with its mouth open. In its paws, it holds a shield featuring Jane Seymour’s royal badge. This heraldic creature symbolises the Queen’s royal authority and lineage. The design is encircled by the inscription “QUEEN'S LION” and the year of issue “2026”. The obverse of the coin features the portrait of King Charles III. Surrounding the portrait is the inscription “CHARLES III D G REX F D”. In addition, the face value “100 POUNDS” and the initials “MJ” of British sculptor Martin Jennings are struck on the coin; his portrait of King Charles III adorns the obverse.
