Information about CuNi Mythical Creatures "The Unicorn" 3 EUR UNC - 2026

Graceful, mysterious and full of magic: The unicorn is one of the most beloved mythical creatures of all time and has been regarded for centuries as a symbol of purity, uniqueness and true friendship. With the Mythical Creatures series, the Austrian Mint brings legendary creatures to life in a truly special way. Thanks to modern UV technology, the colourful designs reveal a fascinating effect under ultraviolet light, transporting collectors into a mysterious world of myths and legends. The series continues with the coin "The Unicorn", the fifth issue in the twelve-part collection. The coin is issued in uncirculated quality with a limited mintage of 65,000 pieces worldwide.

The Design of the Coin

The reverse features a majestic, radiant white unicorn charging towards the viewer with its flowing mane and powerful movement. Particularly striking is its long, spirally twisted horn, which is highlighted in gold colouring. A golden carbuncle gemstone and an elaborate ornament in the lower right section complement the detailed design. According to legend, the mysterious carbuncle gemstone was believed to be found on the unicorn's forehead and was said to bring good fortune and healing powers to its owner. A gold-coloured band along the edge of the coin completes the harmonious composition. Under UV light, the special colours reveal their extraordinary effect: The horn begins to sparkle mysteriously, giving the unicorn an almost magical appearance.

The unicorn has a history stretching back thousands of years. For centuries, it was not regarded merely as a mythical creature but was believed to be a rare and mysterious animal possessing extraordinary powers. Particularly during the Middle Ages, it symbolised purity, innocence and goodness. Today, the unicorn primarily represents uniqueness, freedom and true friendship and serves as a charming reminder that every individual is truly special.

The obverse, which is identical on all coins in the series, features an elaborately decorated key bearing the letter "F" - a symbol of the Mythical Creatures. In the background, a stylised sun in the form of a silhouette is embedded in a circular, subtly textured relief. Sparkling stars and playfully designed lettering further enhance the magical character of the coin.
