Information about Gold China Panda 1/20

The Gold China Panda is a Chinese bullion coin with a fineness of 999.9 and has been minted by the China Mint since 1982 and issued by China Gold Coin Inc. since 2006. In 1982, the China Panda gold coin was issued in 1 ounce and 1/10 ounce denominations. Since 1983, the face value has been given in yuan and the denominations have been expanded to include 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/20 ounce, as well as a 12-ounce and a 1-kilogram version. The China Panda gold coin is considered official currency.

The obverse of the Gold China Panda shows the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, while the reverse (with the exception of 2001 and 2002) features annually changing images of giant pandas. Commemorative coins depicting the Chinese national coat of arms have also been minted on special occasions. Coins and bars with various Olympic motifs were also issued to mark the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

In addition to the China Panda gold coin, there are coins in silver (since 1983), platinum (since 1987), palladium (since 1989), bi-metal (since 1992) and copper (1983-1984). Small editions of the silver and gold China Panda are also minted annually without a face value. These are not issued officially, but serve as gifts to the Chinese government and have a high collector's value.
