This special gold coin from the Royal Australian Mint is dedicated to the Year of the Goat (2027) in the Chinese lunar calendar. It draws on the traditional legend according to which the Jade Emperor had twelve animals compete in a race across a river to determine the order of the zodiac signs. The Goat reached the opposite bank together with the Monkey and the Rooster on a raft, finishing in eighth place. Accordingly, the Goat motif marks the eighth release in the renowned Lunar RAM series. People born in the Year of the Goat are traditionally considered creative and compassionate. 

This exclusive gold coin is struck in Proof quality and comes with an elegant coin case and a numbered certificate of authenticity. Proof quality is particularly popular among collectors and is one of the most elaborate coin production methods. While with a high-relief strike only the relief of the motif side is raised, with this domed striking the entire coin surface is shaped into a curved form. This minting technique also presents particular challenges for the mint. However, the effort is well worth it, as both the convex and concave curvature of the coin create a distinctive visual effect. The worldwide mintage of this exceptional gold coin is limited to just 750 pieces.

The Design of the Gold Coin

The reverse of this exquisitely designed coin features a goat set against a background of persimmons. The fruits are regarded as symbols of prosperity and good fortune, complementing the traditional symbolism of the Chinese zodiac sign. The inscriptions "YEAR OF THE GOAT", the weight "1 oz" and the fineness ".9999 Au" are also featured. The obverse depicts the effigy of King Charles III, designed by Daniel Thorne, surrounded by the 12 zodiac signs. The current zodiac sign is positioned at 12 o'clock above the portrait. The portrait is framed by the inscriptions "CHARLES III", "AUSTRALIA 2027" and "100 DOLLARS".
