The latest issue in the Perth Mint's Lunar III series reveals the beauty of the snake. An artfully designed motif invites you to immerse yourself in the world of Chinese mythology. The snake is the sixth sign of the twelve-year lunar calendar. This reflects the traditional story in which the Jade Emperor had the twelve signs of the zodiac compete against each other in a race across a river to decide in which order they should be entered in the calendar. Those born in 2025, 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977 and every 12th previous year under the sign of the Chinese snake are considered charismatic, independent and intelligent.

In addition to the classic investment variant in the usual denominations, the Perth Mint is issuing the proof variant of the Lunar III snake in gold with a special high relief minting. The proof (PF) is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate methods of producing a coin. Each coin is issued with a capsule, a certificate and a high-quality red case with gold engraving and magnetic closure. This gold coin is strictly limited with a worldwide mintage of only 188 pieces. It is also the first Lunar III issue from the Perth Mint to feature the effigy of King Charles III.

The design of the gold coin

The dominant center of the motif page shows a snake coiling between bamboo stalks. Artist Sean Rogers has depicted the snake as a creature full of mystery, charisma, strength, vigilance and intelligence. His design is intended to reflect the many facets of this sign of the zodiac. Next to the motif is the Chinese character for snake “蛇”, the inscription “SNAKE 2025” and the Perth Mint's mintmark “P”.

The value side of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III, with the words “CHARLES III” and “AUSTRALIA” above. The weight “1oz”, the fineness “9999 Au” and the face value of “100 DOLLARS” adorn the bottom of the coin.
