The Maple Leaf was first minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1979, making it one of the first investment coins made of fine gold. The name refers to the English term for the maple leaf. Alongside the Krugerrand, the Maple Leaf gold coin is one of the most common gold coins in the world and is characterized in particular by its high fineness of 999.9. The Maple Leaf also has the status of an official means of payment in Canada and exists in denominations of 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/10 ounce and 1/20 ounce in addition to 1/1 ounce. The coin has been available in silver and platinum since 1988 and in palladium since 2005. The Maple Leaf gold coin is one of our most popular coins due to its good price-performance ratio and high quality.
The motif side shows the maple leaf, which is also depicted on the Canadian national flag. The familiar motif of the maple leaf is framed by the issuing country “CANADA” as well as the fine weight and fineness of “FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR 9999”. The value side of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III for the first time. Around the portrait is the inscription “CHARLES III” as well as the face value and the year of issue “50 DOLLARS 2024”. Since 2013, the 1-ounce version of the Maple Leaf gold coin also bears an additional visual security feature in the form of a smaller maple leaf with the last two digits of the year of minting.
