Investment gold is tax-exempt according to § 6 Abs. 1 Zi 8j UStG.
This striking gold coin has been issued by the Banco de Mexico at the Casa de Moneda mint since 1981.
In 1991, the Mexican Mint also introduced the smaller denominations of 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz. The coin was redesigned as part of the 1996 issue. The resulting design is still used today.
Another special feature of the Gold Libertad is that although this gold coin does not have a minted face value, it is still legal tender in Mexico. The current value is based on the material value determined daily on the stock exchange and is calculated according to the fine weight of the national currency.
The final mintage figure for this issue has not yet been published by the Banco de México. However, it is expected that, as in previous years, the circulation will be lower than the maximum mintage. In 2023, the circulation figure was 1.500 copies.
Mexico's coat of arms is depicted on the motif side of the Gold Mexico Libertad. The modern coat of arms design is in the center of the motif. This is framed by a ring consisting of 10 historical versions of the coat of arms from the last 200 years.
The value side shows the image of Mexico's winged goddess of victory. The image of the Winged Victress has existed since the 1820s and is the striking symbol of Mexico's triumph over Spain in the War of Independence.
