Artist David Lawrence designed the reverse of the coin. It depicts the Royal Dragon in a heraldic representation alongside a shield that emphasises its royal significance. The obverse of the coin features the portrait of King Charles III. Surrounding the portrait is the inscription "CHARLES III D G REX F D". The face value "500 POUNDS" and the initials “MJ” of British sculptor Martin Jennings, whose portrait of King Charles appears on the obverse, are also featured.
