The Royal Australian Mint's “Beauty, Rich and Rare” series seeks to capture this natural wonder with these unique, colorful and curved coins. The Daintree Rainforest is one of the oldest tropical rainforests in the world. The Daintree Rainforest in northern Queensland has been constantly evolving, growing, living and breathing for 180 million years. The forest is so impressive that the famous British nature filmmaker Sir David Attenborough described it as “the most remarkable place on earth”. The rainforest covers an area of around 1,200 square kilometers and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1988.

The design of the silver coin

The plant is surrounded by a majestic forest that rises into the air. The face value “$5” can be read to the side. The inscriptions “DAINTREE RAINFOREST” and “2022 BEAUTY, RICH & RARE” complete the design on the edge of the coin.
The value side shows the famous portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is surrounded by further images of the Great Barrier Reef and the fan palm. The portrait is framed by the lettering “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA 2022” and “ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER”.
