This silver coin from the popular Deadly & Dangerous coin series is dedicated to the Portuguese Galley. The Portuguese Galley is not a jellyfish, but a colony of polyps that are connected to each other. It has a gas-filled, blue or purple-colored bladder that can be up to 30 cm long and serves as a sail. Under the bladder are long tentacles that are covered with venom-secreting cnidocytes and can grow up to 30 meters long. The Portuguese man o' war lives in warm and temperate waters worldwide. It often occurs in shoals and can be driven onto beaches by wind and currents.

The proof (PF) finish is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate production processes for a coin. The coin is strictly limited to 2,500 pieces worldwide and is supplied in the original coin case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The design of the silver coin

The dominant center of the design side shows the elaborately coloured Portuguese galley with part of its body depicted above the water, as well as the tentacles together with underwater flora and a fish swimming under the water. The words “AUSTRALIA`S BLUEBOTTLE” complete this exceptionally beautiful design at the left edge of the coin. The value side features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Ian Rank Broadley. Below it is the inscription “IRB 1952 - 2022”. Her famous portrait is framed by the words “QUEEN ELIZABETH II - TUVALU 2024”, as well as the face value of “1 DOLLAR” and the fineness and weight of “1 oz 9999 Ag”.
