The Perth Mint dedicates this spectacular 2 kilo silver coin to the honey bee. Bees have been providing people with honey for thousands of years. The ancient Egyptians ascribed great religious and spiritual significance to bees, while many civilizations revered them in art, jewelry, sculpture and, like the Greeks, on early coins. The English poet Geoffrey Chaucer admired their seemingly endless industriousness and energy, creating the phrase 'busy as bees'. But their role as effective pollinators of crops outweighs any other aspect of their beneficence. Through this vital biological service, they remain indispensable to people and the planet.
Each of the exceptional coins is individually plated with an antique finish, which means that the appearance of each coin may vary slightly. This 2 kilo silver coin is housed in a clear plexiglass holder for perfect presentation. The worldwide mintage of this exclusive coin is just 200 pieces.
The design side of the coin shows three worker bees on the petals of a large flower. Other honey bees and flowers are depicted in the background. The inscription “HONEY BEE” adorns the coin below. In addition to the mintmark “P125”, which stands for the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint, the design side also contains the year of minting “2024” as well as the coin's weight and fineness “2 KILO 9999 SILVER”. The value side of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III. Around the portrait is the inscription “CHARLES III” and the country of origin “AUSTRALIA”. The face value “60 DOLLARS” is also shown below the portrait.
