The marsupial has been a protected species since 1937 due to its endangered status. This coin is the start of a new annual coin series with changing motifs of the koala. Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the reverse of the coin for the last time.

The design of the silver coin

The design side shows a koala lying surrounded by eucalyptus, looking to the left. The lettering “KOALA” can also be seen on the left-hand side. Engraved parallel below the koala is the fineness of “1 oz” and the fineness of “9999 Ag”.

The memorial portrait of Queen Elizabeth II can be seen on the value side. The portrait is complemented by the dates of her reign (“1952 - 2022”) and the words “ELIZABETH II” and “AUSTRALIA 2024”. The face value of “5 DOLLARS” adorns the bottom of the coin.
