Information about Gold Babenberger 1000 ATS
The 1000 schilling Babenberg coin was the first schilling gold coin minted in the Second Republic of Austria in 1976. Affectionately known as the “golden thousand”, this bullion coin is still very present on the market today thanks to its high mintage.
The Babenberg dynasty was one of the most famous rulers of medieval Europe, with great power and status. The Babenbergs originally came from Bamberg. In the year 976, they were installed as margraves and dukes in Austria by Emperor Otto II. They ruled Austria until 1246, when the Babenberg dynasty of margraves and dukes died out.
