The koala is one of Australia’s most recognised symbols and has been protected since 1937 due to the threat posed by humans. Sleepy and gentle by nature, koalas spend most of their time resting or feeding on eucalyptus leaves in the forests of Australia. Since 2007, the Perth Mint has issued the Australian Koala as a silver coin series in honour of this well-known marsupial. Since 2008, the series has also been available in gold. As an addition to the popular gold series, a 1 oz coin in the popular minting quality Proof with High Relief is now issued annually. Proof is particularly sought after by collectors and is considered one of the most elaborate minting techniques. The coin was also struck on an extra-deep blank to showcase its highly detailed high-relief design to particularly impressive effect.

With a worldwide mintage of only 200 pieces, this gold coin is strictly limited and is delivered in its original coin case with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

The design of the gold coin

The motif side of the coin features a koala sitting in a eucalyptus tree, holding a leafy branch in its mouth. Surrounded by native plant life, the motif impressively captures the calm and natural character of this special animal. The design is complemented by the inscription “KOALA”, the Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark, as well as details of the weight, fineness and year of issue: “2026 1oz 9999 GOLD”.

The obverse of the coin features the portrait of King Charles III. Around the portrait are the inscriptions “CHARLES III” and the country of issue “AUSTRALIA”. Below the portrait, the denomination “100 DOLLARS” is also shown.
