The Sovereign by The Royal Mint is one of the best-known British gold coins. Its history dates back to 1489. In 1817, the Sovereign was reintroduced in its modern form and, with Britain's growing international importance, developed into a major trade coin. To this day, the Sovereign remains closely associated with the British monarchy and the numismatic history of the United Kingdom.

The 2027 3 Coin Set consists of the three denominations Sovereign (7.99 g), Half-Sovereign (3.99 g) and Quarter-Sovereign (2.00 g). All three coins are struck in traditional 22-carat gold (916.7/1000) and issued in the highest minting quality, Proof. The set is presented in an elegant coin case together with a certificate of authenticity. The worldwide mintage is limited to 800 sets.

The Design of the Gold Coins

The reverses feature the famous depiction of Saint George slaying the dragon by Benedetto Pistrucci. This traditional motif has been closely associated with the Sovereign since the early 19th century and is today one of the most iconic designs in British coinage. The year of issue, “2027”, appears below the design on each coin. The obverses feature the official coinage portrait of King Charles III. Designed by British sculptor Martin Jennings, the portrait depicts the monarch facing left and is surrounded by the corresponding royal inscription.
