The latest release in the Perth Mint Lunar III Series is dedicated to the Goat. The beautifully crafted design draws inspiration from the Chinese zodiac, in which the Goat represents the eighth sign of the twelve-year lunar calendar. According to legend, the Jade Emperor invited all the animals to take part in a great race to determine the order of the twelve zodiac signs. On the way to the finish line, the gentle yet determined Goat joined forces with the Monkey and the Rooster. Together, they managed to cross a wide river before the Goat was the first of the group to reach the opposite bank, ultimately finishing in eighth place. People born in 2027, 2015, 2003, 1991, 1979 and every twelfth preceding year under the sign of the Chinese Goat are considered gentle, creative and compassionate. They are said to possess a calm nature, resilience, artistic talent and a particularly thoughtful approach to life. 

In addition to the classic bullion versions available in the usual denominations, The Perth Mint also issues the Lunar Series in gold and silver as Proof editions. The Proof finish is particularly popular among collectors and is one of the most elaborate minting techniques used in coin production. The design of the silver coin

The reverse depicts an adult goat, a young goat and a kid grazing peacefully. The design references the auspicious saying “Three Goats Bring Good Fortune” and symbolises the end of winter and the arrival of spring, as well as renewal and a promising new beginning. A blossoming plum tree represents purity, resilience and hope. Alongside the design are the Chinese character for Goat “羊”, the inscription “GOAT 2027” and The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark.

The obverse of the coin features the portrait of King Charles III. The inscriptions “CHARLES III” and “AUSTRALIA” appear above the portrait. Below are the weight “1 oz”, the fineness “9999 Ag” and the face value “1 DOLLAR”.
