The latest issue in the Perth Mint's Lunar III series reveals the beauty of the snake. An artfully designed motif invites you to immerse yourself in the world of Chinese mythology. The snake is the sixth sign of the twelve-year lunar calendar. This reflects the traditional story in which the Jade Emperor had the twelve signs of the zodiac compete against each other in a race across a river to decide in which order they should be entered in the calendar. Those born in 2025, 2013, 2001, 1989, 1977 and every 12th preceding year under the sign of the Chinese snake are considered charismatic, independent and intelligent.

In addition to the classic investment variant in the usual denominations, the Perth Mint is issuing the proof variant of the Lunar III Mouse in silver in denominations of 1 oz and ½ oz as well as a set of 3 (2 oz, 1 oz and ½ oz). The coin set is strictly limited with a worldwide mintage of only 1,000 pieces and is issued in a high-quality case with silver engraving and magnetic closure.

The design of the silver coin

The dominant center of the design side shows a coiled snake on the ground beneath hanging leaves. A coastline can be seen in the background. Artist Sean Rogers has depicted the snake as a creature full of mystery, charisma, strength, vigilance and intelligence. His design is intended to reflect the many facets of this sign of the zodiac. Next to the motif is the Chinese character for snake “蛇”, the inscription “SNAKE 2025” and the Perth Mint's mintmark “P”.

The value side of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III, with the words “CHARLES III” and “AUSTRALIA” embossed above. The respective weight, the fineness “9999 Ag” and the face value adorn the coin below.
