Information about the Gold China Panda 1/2 oz
The Gold China Panda is a Chinese bullion coin with a fineness of 999.9. It has been minted by the China Mint since 1982 and issued by China Gold Coin Inc. since 2006. In 1982, the China Panda gold coin was introduced without a face value, available in 1 oz and 1/10 oz sizes. Since 1983, the face value has been indicated in Yuan, and the series was expanded to include 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/20 oz denominations, as well as occasional 12 oz and 1 kg versions. The China Panda gold coin is recognized as legal tender.
The obverse of the Gold China Panda features the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The reverse side (with the exception of the years 2001 and 2002) displays annually changing depictions of giant pandas. On special occasions, commemorative coins have also been issued, featuring the national emblem of China. For the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, coins and bars with various Olympic designs were released.
In addition to the China Panda gold coin, there are also coins available in silver (since 1983), platinum (since 1987), palladium (since 1989), bi-metal (since 1992), and copper (1983–1984). Small mintages of silver and Gold China Panda coins without face value are also produced annually. These are not officially released to the public but are used as diplomatic gifts by the Chinese government and are considered highly valuable collector's items.
