The Gold China Panda is a Chinese bullion coin with a fineness of 999 and has been minted by the China Mint or China Gold Coin Incorporation (CGCI) since 1982. The unique appearance of the panda, with its black and white fur and gentle but bear-like appearance, fascinates people both in China and around the world. In 1982, the China Panda gold coin was issued in 1 ounce and 1/10 ounce denominations. Since 1983, the face value has been given in yuan and the denominations have been expanded to include 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce and 1/20 ounce as well as a 12 ounce and a 1 kilogram version. The China Panda gold coin is considered official currency. The China Panda in gold and silver is issued without the Anglo-Saxon weight indication in ounces, as the China Gold Coin Incorporation has switched to the European metric weight system.
The proof edition of the Gold China Panda 50 g PF - 2025 is produced in the highest minting quality “proof” and is partially coloured (iridescent colouring). The proof minting quality (PF) is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate production processes for a coin. The coin is supplied in the original coin case with a certificate of authenticity. The mintage is limited to 40,000 pieces worldwide.
The design of the gold coin
The motif side shows a playful panda cub together with an adult panda holding a bamboo branch. In the background, another adult panda is resting on a rocky outcrop and gazing into the distance. Its calm and serene posture contrasts with the lively scene in the foreground. All three pandas are surrounded by lush bamboo, authentically reflecting their natural environment. The coin's fine weight of “50g”, its fineness of “Au .999” and its face value of “800 YUAN” are also depicted. As with all coins in the panda series, the value side shows the year of minting “2025” and the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The temple is framed by the inscription “中华人民共和国” (People's Republic of China).
