The Greyhound of Richmond is the latest addition to the Royal Tudor Beasts series. Henry VIII inherited this heraldic greyhound from Edward III and the House of Lancaster. After Henry's grandfather, Edmund Tudor, Earl of Richmond, chose a white greyhound as his heraldic animal, the animal became known as the “White Greyhound of Richmond”.

The design of the gold coin
The artist David Lawrence designed the motif side of the coin. The greyhound, which is depicted on Moat Bridge in an upright position, impresses with its slender build and protruding chest. In its paws it holds a shield in the shape of a tournament shield, on which the three lions of England are depicted facing the viewer. The motif is framed by the words “GREYHOUND OF RICHMOND” and the year of issue “2025”. The value side of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III. Around the portrait is the inscription “CHARLES III D G REX F D”. There is also the face value “25 POUNDS” and the initials “MJ” of the British sculptor Martin Jennings, whose portrait of King Charles adorns the value side.
