The Australian Kookaburra coin has been issued annually with changing designs since 1990. The coin is sold worldwide as the “Australian Kookaburra” and is named after the world's largest kingfisher. The annually changing designs make the Kookaburra very popular as an investment and collector coin. Kookaburras are large, up to 48 cm long, predominantly brown-grey and whitish colored birds that are native to Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea. The calls of the kookaburra resemble loud and hysterical laughter, which is why the bird is often called “Laughing Jack”.

The proof (PF) is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate production processes for a coin. The design of the silver coin

The design side of the coin shows a kookaburra in flight over a gorge with a snake in its claws. The motif is framed by the lettering “KOOKABURRA” and the year of minting “2024”. In addition to the mintmark “P125”, which stands for the 125th anniversary of the Perth Mint, the design side also contains the coin's weight and fineness. The value side of the coin shows the portrait of King Charles III. Around the portrait is the inscription “CHARLES III” and the country of origin “AUSTRALIA”. The face value “2 DOLLARS” is also shown below the portrait.
